The new Pennsylvania DUI law enacted in 2004 provides for harsh penalties, including prison time, even for first-time offenders. These penalties are more severe for those with prior DUI convictions. Despite this, it is sometimes possible to have the sentences reduced through ARD or intermediate punishment.
